Day 2: Tbilisi – Tsinandali – Traditional lunch with a Georgian family - Sighnaghi – Bodbe – Tbilisi (Georgia)
After breakfast, meet your guide and depart for Kakheti, the eastern region of Georgia, famous for its viticulture and winemaking traditions. Arrive in Tsinandali, the residence of the Dukes of Georgia, with a beautiful English garden, museum, and winery that belonged to Prince Chavchavadze, a 19th-century public figure and poet.
Lunch with a local family, where we can enjoy a traditional feast and listen to the best Georgian toasts, a true ritual.
Continue your visits to the Kakheti region. Visit Sighnaghi, the royal city, also known as the "City of Love." This city, surrounded by defensive walls with 23 towers, was an important trading center on the Silk Road. Continue to Bodbe Convent: according to legend, this is the burial place of Saint Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity in the 4th century. Since 1889, following a decree of Tsar Alexander III of Russia, Bodbe Convent has functioned as a nunnery. In the afternoon, arrive in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. Overnight at a hotel. Day
3 Breakfast, followed by a sightseeing tour of Tbilisi. Visit the Metekhi Church and the monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi. Visit the Narikala Fortress, with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Walk outside Tbilisi's only mosque to the Sulfur Baths district. Stroll through the Sharden area, full of narrow streets with cozy cafes, wine bars, and souvenir shops, where you can breathe the history of old Tbilisi. Visit Sioni Cathedral, Anchiskhati Basilica, and the famous clock tower of the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, before crossing the Bridge of Peace to Rike Park. Free time and an evening dinner at a traditional Georgian restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Tbilisi – Jvari – Mtskheta – Kazbegi – Gudauri (Georgia)
After breakfast, we'll depart for northern Georgia. Our first stop will be the hilltop Jvari Monastery, a true architectural masterpiece from the early medieval period. From here, you can enjoy views of the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. We'll continue to Mtskheta, one of Georgia's oldest cities and the country's cultural and religious center. Mtskheta was the capital of the eastern Georgian kingdom of Kartli from the 3rd century BC. Visit Svetitskhoveli, Mtskheta's main cathedral and the sacred site where the robe of Christ is kept. We'll then cross the Jvari Pass, with a brief stop at the Soviet-era "Friendship of Peoples" viewpoint, which overlooks a deep gorge in the Caucasus Mountains. In Kazbegi, we'll switch to a four-wheel drive vehicle to reach the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church (located at an altitude of 2,170 meters), with breathtaking views of Mount Kazbegi. Arrival in Gudauri in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.
Lunch during excursions and dinner.
Day 5: Gudauri – Ananuri – Uplistsikhe – Gori – Tbilisi (Georgia)
Breakfast. Transfer to the Ananuri architectural complex, a former residence of the Argveti dukes, which features churches and towers dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries and magnificently overlooks the Jinvali Basin. Visit the cave city of Uplistsikhe, which dates back to the Hellenistic period and is notable for its unique combination of various styles of rock-cut architecture, both pagan and Christian. Continue to Stalin's birthplace, Gori. Visit the Stalin Museum, which includes more than 60,000 artifacts, the tiny house where Stalin was born, and the impressive bulletproof train used by Stalin to travel to Yalta and Potsdam. Arrival in Tbilisi in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.
Lunch during excursions.
Day 6 Tbilisi – Free Day (Georgia)
Breakfast. Free day in Tbilisi.
We offer an optional culinary masterclass on traditional Georgian food. The masterclass includes 3-4 dishes and snacks and lasts 4-5 hours. Advance reservation is required.
Alternatively, we suggest the following independent activities and places to visit in Tbilisi:
- Georgian National Museum (Rustaveli Avenue) to visit the "Archaeological Treasury" exhibition;
- National Gallery (Rustaveli Avenue) with works by famous Georgian artists Niko Pirosmani, David Kakabadze, and Lado Gudiashvili;
- Tbilisi Flea Market where you can find antiques (many dating back to the Soviet era), paintings by local artists, and handmade Georgian souvenirs;
- David Agmashenebeli Avenue, a recently renovated pedestrian street lined with historic buildings with Art Nouveau, pseudo-Gothic, and Classicist facades, featuring a mix of traditional Georgian ornamentation and balconies. Along the street are many cozy art cafes, galleries, shops, and wine bars;
- Dezertirebi Bazaar, a market with local and natural products, including Georgian sweets (such as churchkhela); various dried fruits, nuts, and spices; and Georgian cheeses;
- Funicular to Mtatsminda Mountain with stunning views of Tbilisi;
- Stroll through Sololaki, an Art Nouveau neighborhood;
In the evening, we recommend Tbilisi's famous sulfur baths to relax in the warm, naturally sulfur-infused water after a long day of exploring (both public and private rooms are available, but private ones must be booked in advance).
For those interested in culture, we suggest visiting the Georgian State Opera and Ballet Theatre to see a ballet or opera performance.
Day 7: Tbilisi – Armenian Border – Haghpat – Lake Sevan – Sevanavank – Yerevan (Georgia-Armenia)
Breakfast. Meet your driver at your hotel and transfer to the Georgian-Armenian border crossing at Sadakhlo-Bagratashen. After crossing the border on foot, you'll meet your Armenian guide and driver to begin your journey to the land of ancient traditions and churches. Departure for the Lori region and visit Haghpat Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's an extraordinary example of traditional Armenian architecture, built between the 10th and 13th centuries on a hilltop and magnificently overlooking the Debed River Canyon. The monastery's location was chosen to protect the monks' peace and solitude. We'll then travel through Dilijan to Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-mountain freshwater lakes in the world, considered the "jewel of Armenia." The lake's shoreline is dotted with dense forests, white rock faces, mountain steppes, and alpine meadows. Visit the Sevanavank Monastery, which comprises two churches—Surb Arakelots and Surb Karapet—standing among numerous khachkars. The buildings were constructed of black tuff, which likely gave the monastery its name, Sevanavank, or "Black Monastery." The monastery is located on a lake and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Continue to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, for a night at a hotel.
Lunch is included during excursions.
Day 8: Yerevan – Etchmiadzin – Yerevan (Armenia)
After breakfast, depart the city for the Holy See of Armenia, Etchmiadzin, the residence of the Catholicos, the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Visit the exterior of the Cathedral (currently under renovation) and the museum of Christian relics. Return and visit Yerevan, one of the oldest cities in the world. Yerevan is also nicknamed the "Pink City" and impresses visitors with its grandiose Soviet architecture. Our first stop in Yerevan will be the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex on Tsitsernakaberd Hill. Next, visit the Kaskad, a 500-meter-high and 50-meter-wide limestone staircase with no fewer than 572 steps. From the top of the monument, you have a breathtaking view of the city, including the Opera House, Mount Ararat, Swan Lake, Republic Square, and Abovyan Avenue, which we will see while walking through the streets of Yerevan (about 2 km on foot). Afterwards, return to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 9 Yerevan – Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni Cave – Yerevan (Armenia)
Breakfast. Excursion to the Khor Virap Monastery. According to legend, Saint Gregory the Illuminator (credited with Armenia's conversion to Christianity) was held here in the basement for 13 years to spread Christianity, until King Tradt decided to adopt the new religion. The monastery's location offers superb views of Mount Ararat. Visit the Noravank complex, located on a ledge above a deep, winding gorge. Noravank rises between steep, bizarrely shaped red cliffs. Visit the Areni Cave complex, where the world's oldest leather shoe was discovered in 2008. On the way back to Yerevan, stop at a winery to taste wines made from local grapes. Arrival in Yerevan. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 10 Yerevan – Garni – Geghard – Yerevan (Armenia)
Breakfast. Departure from Yerevan for Garni, the only pagan temple in Armenia to survive the introduction of Christianity in the 4th century. Followed by a visit to the Geghard ("Spear") monastic complex. The landscape surrounding Geghard is framed by imposing cliffs. The decorative art carved into the rock reflects and explains the medieval development of this region. The complex was built in the 4th century around the sacred spring inside the cave.
